Part of my trip out West was spent driving along the coast of Oregon. The first stop on our "mini road trip" was in Astoria, OR at a glass blowing studio. My Aunt Becky is even more "craft crazed" than me and so this was the perfect activity for both of us. She is actually very talented at most things crafty, so I'm always excited to have her share her expertise with me. The studio we went to was called Fernhill Glass and they make absolutely beautiful stuff. Becky and I each made our own paperweight/glass egg things and it was definitely one of the coolest things I've ever done. The next time I visit we plan on going back and making something else! The owners were great and fun to work with. All in all it was a great first stop on our trip down the coast.
So as we were driving along through Astoria I said "Wow, this looks exactly like the houses and stuff in the movie The Goonies." My aunt had no idea what I was talking about-she's never seen the movie!!!! It turns out that IS where they filmed that movie! I thought that was pretty neat (my brother and I have loved that movie since we were little kids).
We stopped on the docks and checked out the sea otters (lions?) I don't remember which they were. But they were smelly and loud haha.
So here are some pictures from the first part of the trip!

This part was called the "glory hole" and you put the glass in there to get it hot enough to work with everytime you did something different to it.

Getting some instructions from the fun teachers.

I was REALLY excited about my glass egg :-)

My finished products!

The stinky sea otters!
that looks like fun!
